Safeguarding & Vetting Policy
Last updated: October 2025
At Cura Nidus, the safety and wellbeing of children and families is our highest priority.
We are committed to promoting safeguarding and safer recruitment practices throughout every stage of the introduction process.
This policy sets out how we vet nannies, handle information responsibly, and uphold professional childcare standards across Kent, London, Essex, and the South East.
1. Our Commitment to Safeguarding
We believe that all children have the right to be cared for in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment.
Cura Nidus upholds the principles of:
- Trust — acting with integrity and transparency.
- Safety — ensuring all candidates meet safeguarding standards.
- Respect — valuing diversity and protecting personal dignity.
We follow Safer Recruitment principles in line with Ofsted and UK Government guidance.
2. Our Vetting Procedures
Before any nanny is introduced to a family, Cura Nidus undertakes a thorough screening process that includes:
- Enhanced DBS check — all nannies must hold a current (within 3 years) Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate.
- Identity verification — including photo ID and proof of address.
- Right to work in the UK — verified documentation for all candidates.
- Employment references — a minimum of two verified childcare-related references.
- Experience and qualifications — confirmation of professional experience, training, or relevant certifications.
We retain copies of relevant documents for verification purposes in line with data protection laws.
3. Safeguarding Principles
We are guided by the following safeguarding principles:
- Children’s welfare is paramount.
- All introductions are handled with care, discretion, and confidentiality.
- We encourage families to maintain clear communication and written employment agreements.
- Any safeguarding concern raised during the introduction process will be treated seriously and promptly.
4. Family Responsibilities
As Cura Nidus acts as an introducer only, the employing family assumes responsibility for:
- Issuing an employment contract.
- Conducting ongoing supervision and ensuring safe working conditions.
- Reporting any safeguarding concerns or incidents promptly.
We provide guidance to families on best practice, reference checking, and maintaining safe, professional childcare arrangements.
5. Reporting Concerns
If a safeguarding concern arises regarding a nanny or a family, Cura Nidus will:
- Record the concern clearly and confidentially.
- Take appropriate action, which may include suspending introductions.
- Report to relevant authorities where legally required (e.g., DBS, Local Authority, or Ofsted).
You can raise a concern at any time by emailing info@curanidus.com with “Safeguarding” in the subject line.
6. Data Protection and Confidentiality
All safeguarding records and personal information are handled securely in accordance with the UK GDPR and our [Privacy Policy].
Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis or when required by law.
7. Continuous Improvement
Cura Nidus reviews this policy regularly to ensure compliance with current legislation and best practice in safeguarding and recruitment.
We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, safety, and professionalism.
